PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION The purpose of this competition is to celebrate the photographic progress and achievements of Portlaoise Camera Club and its members in a focused and structured way. The timing of the competition is set to coincide with our Christmas break-up and to mark this end with a significant club event. The timing of the competition is also essential for highlighting the clubs best images and in so preparing the club for key national and possibly international photographic competitions. The competition is designed to be inclusive and provide the participants with unrivaled value for money. 3 best photographer awards (one for each grade i.e. advanced, intermediate and beginner) and 30 photograph awards will be on offer and one perpetual trophy will be awarded to the overall Photographer of the Year. Each participant will receive a CD catalogue which will contain all images from the competition. Each participant will receive a certificate of participation containing individuals photograph scores and listing of accepted images. This is a photographic competition but it is also a vehicle to facilitate club members to achieve a club distinction. This provides an extra interest in the competition and can prepare members to become familiar with and interested in the structures of national and international photographic distinctions. It is hoped that the competition and distinction process will help to enhance members sense of pride and participation in Portlaoise Camera Club and to also remind us of the continued improvements in members photography and the club as a whole. Who can enter Only members of Portlaoise Camera Club who have an attendance of 25% or greater at club meetings can participate in the PCC Photographer Of The Year Competition which will be held on an annual basis. Minimum attendance for the year 2019 to date is 4 meetings. Categories There are 6 categories in this competition. Each photographer can enter up to 2 images in each category. Therefore the maximum number of images that a photographer can enter in the annual competition is 12. You don't have to enter 12 images but the more images you enter the better chance you have in the competition. The 6 Categories are as follows: A - Open Colour (Colour images only) B - Open Monochrome (Monochrome images only) C - Creative (Colour or Monochrome images) D - Travel/Life (Colour or Monochrome images) E - Nature/Wildlife (Colour or Monochrome images) F - Landscape/Seascape (Colour or Monochrome images) We will not be applying strict definitions (IPF or FIAP) to these categories however photographers should keep to the themes as best they can for each category as the judges might penalise images that do not roughly fit the theme. Images will not be disqualified for not fitting the theme but the judges might show a preference towards images that do comply strictly with the themes. Remember for Nature - nothing can be added or taken away. Images This is a digital only competition so prints cannot be accepted. Images entered in previous Portlaoise Camera Club Photographer Of The Year Competitions are not eligible. Images must be emailed to pccpoty@gmail.com Please state how many images you are submitting to the competition in your email. If you intend to send more than one email with your images please state in your email "email 1 of 3" etc. Image dimensions must be kept between 1000 and 2400 pixels @ 72ppi on the long side and must be in JPEG format (.jpg) Examples of acceptable image dimensions: 1200px x 700px 900px x 1500px Try where possible to keep image file sizes smaller than 2MBytes each. (Images that are too large or too small within reason might have to be rejected before judging). This is purely for the sake of ensuring that the email address is not "choked" by extremely large file sizes. Images must not have watermarks, logos or borders. This rule is important for the sake of ensuring a uniform look for the catalogue. Naming of images Each image must be named with the category letter code that it is entered into, followed by photographers name and then the title of the image. (each criteria separated by a hyphen "-" ). Each image must have a title. e.g. F-joebloggs-therockatsunset.jpg Failure to name files correctly might lead to images being rejected. Judges will not be able to see the name of the photographer as this will be changed by the organising committee before judging. By entering images in this competition you are also giving Portlaoise Camera Club the right to possibly select these images for inclusion in any national or international club competition that Portlaoise Camera Club might be entering for as long as that photographer is a member of Portlaoise Camera Club. Eileen Cushen & Pat Ahern will be running the POTY competition. Any questions, please email pccpoty@gmail.com www.portlaoisecameraclub.com www.facebook.com/PortlaoiseCameraClub |
